Garden Planning & Seed Swap Event with Deep Roots
Join Deep Roots for a hands on, free, interactive garden planning workshop and seed swap on Sunday, March 8, 2026, 1-4 PM, at the Oak Park Main Library.
Deep Roots Project will host a hands-on garden planning workshop and seed swap in the Veterans Room at the Oak Park Public Library. The workshop is designed to help gardeners of all experience levels prepare for a successful and abundant growing season.
Participants will have the opportunity to review and develop their garden layouts, explore plant selection strategies, and learn how to use compost and natural fertilizers such as worm castings and fish emulsion to build healthy soil and increase harvests. The workshop will also cover best practices for preparing and cleaning up garden spaces in advance of planting.
In addition, Deep Roots Project will host a seed-sharing table where participants can browse, exchange, and take home a variety of seeds. Bring your extra seeds if you have them, but seeds or not, all are welcome to participate in the seed swap!
Additional topics include identifying sunlight patterns to select the right plants for different areas, effective watering techniques, and planning gardens to suit varying conditions and spaces. Expert gardeners will be on hand throughout the event to answer questions and provide individualized guidance.
This workshop is ideal for new, experienced or novice gardeners, experienced growers, and community groups looking to start or strengthen shared garden spaces. Attendees are encouraged to bring garden plans, questions, or ideas they would like to discuss and review.
FREE & OPEN TO ALL
